About This Site

Kim Traber
January 2004

As you may have already discovered, this web site is not just about the Trabers. It includes the extended family on both Andrea’s side and mine. It is impractical to show the whole tree (forest?) in a single diagram, so we need an entry point. I decided to present my immediate family on the opening page.

Layout

This site has four basic levels:

  Level One: Home Page

Click on the mask to see the first tree. The four links on the left side of the home page have the following actions:

  Level Two: Family Name Trees

Pages on the second level have a dark gray background. The “trees” are rotated 90 degrees from convention, to better fit the screen. The left side of the screen represents the past; the right the future. White arrows lead to continuations of the family-name tree.

The white lines typically denote marriage, but not in all cases. They often signify that members of the two given families produced offspring, but not always. Sometimes they indicate adoptive relationships.

Just to help keep things organized, we use the convention of placing the mother’s family name first, and the father’s second.

The following options appear across the top of each page:

Home

Takes you back to the Traber Tribe home page.

List of Names Takes you to the List of Names page.
Zoom In Replaces the family-name tree with a more detailed tree that shows individual’s names.

  Level Three: Individual Name Trees

These pages have a light gray background. They are similar to the family-name trees, but they show the names of individuals. The white arrows serve the same function; i.e., they lead to continuations of the tree.

Many of the individual names are active links. Selecting one leads to a page devoted to that individual.

To keep the screens less crowded, we use women’s maiden names in the Level 3 trees. If a woman uses her married name, she gets two entries in the List of Names page.

The options across the top of the screen are virtually the same as for the Level 2 pages. The Zoom Out option replaces the currently displayed tree with the Level 2 version of the tree.

  Level Four: Individual Pages

These are the pages devoted to individuals. Depending on the amount of material available for a given person, there may be just one page or many.

  List of Names

This page is an index, containing the names of all individuals that appear in this web site. They are listed alphabetically by last name. Selecting one of the letters at the top of the screen takes you the corresponding section of the index. Each name in the index is an active link. If the individual has their own page, the link takes you there. If they do not, you are taken to the Level 3 tree that contains their name.
